Internet Explorer 8In 2014, Whiteboard produced and released a short video based around the story of Bullendale, the first hydro power station in the southern hemisphere, which now lies in ruins in the back blocks of Central Otago. But, as we learned through that project, Bullendale wasn’t the only example of how New Zealand ran with the head of the pack in this industry. We decided to push on, and partnered with CreateVideo to tell the story of the remarkable individuals who established and maintained New Zealand as a world leader in the development and use of electricity. The 5 part “Powering NZ” documentary is the result.
Powering NZ is not just a celebration of our heritage – it serves as an inspiration to keep leading the world in this industry that underpins just about every social and economic activity in the country.
We released Episode 1 – covering the stories of Bullendale and Reefton – on 22nd November 2017.
Episode 2 was released in July 2018, and Episode 3 was released on 14 November 2018 at the New Zealand Geothermal workshop at Wairakei.
COVID caused some delays in the release of Episode 4, which was released coincident with an online “Energy 101” webinar hosted by the BusinessNZ Energy Council, and the Young Energy Professionals Network, on 5th May 2022.
